Maybe it's because of my recent relocation to an area that has more jacked up trucks than I've ever seen in my entire life, but lately I've been reminded of just how awesome pickup trucks are - I mean, those shits are the shit.Mind you I would never actually buy a pickup truck, let alone go through the time and expense of jacking it up, but every time I've driven a pickup - Chevy Silverado and a beat to shit Ford F250 with a V10 (inherently TSITS) - I've just felt like a #YoungGoHard who can do whatever the fuck it is that I want. Cruising along with one arm out the window, wind in my hair, I'd almost forgotten that I wasn't a scrawny guy working at a nature preserve. Damnitalltohell, pickups are the shit.
Moreover, every time that I see a pickup, especially a full sized diesel, I'm immediately like, fuckin' A right, that's badass. Just listening to that shit idling away at a stop light makes you want to get one and haul shit around. Oh and you can haul some shit in that shit. Try this little factoid on for size. "Ford's Power Stroke diesel V-8 packs 400 horsepower and 800 pound-feet of torque; the base engine in a Peterbilt 348 dump truck offer a mere 260 horsepower and 660 pound foot." Fuck me? Fuck YOU! Damn that's awesome.
Still not satisfied? How about this: "In some versions of the GMC Sierra 2500, you could theoretically carry a Corvette Z06 (3,175 pounds) in the bed. Of course if that's not enough capability, there's always the 3500 model, which can carry even heavier things." I'll leave the facts at that, because that article came from The New York Times, and it just descends into a bunch of pansy crap about gas mileage and whether or not anyone actually needs a pickup truck with more power than a dump truck. Certainly not #TSITS territory, go with Christ brah.
So what is it about pickup trucks that are so seriously badass, aside from the fact that they are super American? Well they walk the amazing line of largely useless to having the capacity to do literally anything that is awesome. Need to help a friend move? Let me call my buddy, he has a pick up truck, we'll be finished with that shit in no time. Have a crap load of hay bales for some reason? Let's load them into the bed of my truck and help decorate the farmers market in my wildly upper-class urban neighborhood. Some dude snag the last cold rack of Red Dogs and you're left with a warm 30? Throw 'em in the back of my truck (ideally truck is the only word in that sentence said in a southern accent) and they'll cool off on the ride home. Want to cruise the main drag while blasting country music, wearing Carhartt's and pretending that you didn't go to private school? Well climb aboard my rig and we'll let Toby Keith provide the commentary from here - "How do you like me now?" Indeed, Toby, Indeed.
Here's the point, you don't need a pickup truck, but you want a pickup truck. You want to know why? Because that shit is the shit.
